G-Force Meter

  • Updated: 29 November 2023

  • Version: 1.0.1.34

  • About

This app is for displaying a G-Ball meter of both lateral and longitudinal G-Force and a combination G Value. The G-Ball is shown on two data screens, each of which contain different supporting data.

The first screen shows live data, including lateral and longitudinal acceleration, and speed. The second screen shows peak data values, including signed lateral acceleration, and peak longitudinal acceleration and deceleration.

Peak data values can be easily reset at the press of a button.

A VBOX IMU can be connected to show measured acceleration data from the inertial sensors. More information available in the 'Using IMU' tab.

The unit also includes the ability to record a screenshot of the current display at any time, and all data is logged to the SD card in the Racelogic VBO format.

  • Using IMU

If a VBOX IMU is detected by VBOX Touch, an additional screen will become available that shows the Y and X Accel data measured by the sensor. Data from the IMU will be included in the logged data file.

To be detected, the IMU must be configured in 'Timed' CAN mode, be set to 500kb/s baud rate, and be using the default output identifiers of 0x600 and 0x601. It can be connected to either 5-pin connection port of the VBOX Touch.

VBOX Setup software and an RLCAB030-S cable are required to configure the IMU. A configuration file can be found here.

Note: The PEAK screen will use IMU data to control the G-Ball. The peak acceleration results will be the greatest magnitude achieved from either GNSS or inertial sensor source.

Braking Reaction

  • Released: 29 November 2023

  • Version: 1.12

  • About

This app uses two triggers, a Logging Start/Stop Switch (RLVBACS010) and a pedal mounted trigger, to measure the reaction and stopping time/distance of the driver.

Once the screen shows ‘READY’ the driver can accelerate to the desired speed or location and then the assessor can start the test at any point by pressing the handheld trigger.

The driver is then instructed to ‘BRAKE’ and then to ‘STOP’. Once the vehicle has come to a stop, the results are shown on the screen and recorded to the SD card.

Reaction, braking and total stopping times/ distances are shown and are recorded to an CSV file, as well as the vehicle speeds at the start of test and at braking. There's a minimum start speed of 20 km/h.

Brake Force

  • Released: 29 November 2023

  • Version: 1.0.23.85

  • About

This app uses a Pedal Force Sensor (RLACS282) connected to the VBOX Touch via a Mini Input Module (MIM01) to measure stopping distance from a nominated pedal force to zero.

The user can specify the pedal force at which the test should start, as well as a minimum speed threshold at which the test will start. The screen displays the current vehicle speed, the current pedal force, the braking distance, the MFDD and the average deceleration of the last completed brake stop. The results from each brake stop are automatically recorded to a text file on the SD card, along with a .vbo file that contains all the VBOX data required for post-processing using the ‘Trigger’ plugin in VBOX Test suite.

To use this app, the Mini Input Module will need the configuration file for VBOX Touch. You must configure the Mini Input Module timer value to 10ms. The pedal force sensor must be wired into the ‘AN1’ channel of the Mini Input Module and the ‘Voltage_1’ channel must be scaled and offset correctly with the response ID remaining as ID310.

  • How to install?

    1. Download the .rvf file to your PC.
(The download is password-protected. You must register your unit to receive the required login details. Register here.)

OBD PID Requester

  • Released: 9 January 2024

  • Version: 0.10

  • About

This app is used to capture vehicle engine speed (rpm) data and throttle position from a connection made to the on-board diagnostics port (OBD II). This data is displayed on screen, and re-transmitted via CAN from the top 5-pin port on the VBOX Touch.

The app and CAN output is ideal to be used by other CAN data loggers that do not support Parameter Identification (PID) requests, to capture vehicle diagnostic information.

To use the app, a VBOX Touch variant is required. The app is not compatible with MFD Touch or Performance Box Touch hardware.

  • CAN output details

RPM available in the first 4 bytes of message identifier 0x700.

Throttle available in the last 4 bytes of message identifier 0x700.

The data is in a 32 bit floating point format, transmitted at a rate of 500 kbit/s.

With the app installed, you can now mark events within your data file, making post-process analysis faster and more efficient. The app features a large touch-screen button to initiate event marks, as well as visual indicators for logging status and satellite lock. A night mode is also available, reducing screen brightness for use in darker environments.

To make event marking even more versatile, you can add up to 6 differentiated marks by modifying the text configuration file. This is especially useful when multiple separate events need to be marked, or for alternate use cases like a feedback scoring system.

Example text configuration file included in download. Simply download the app and the accompanying text config file to an SD card (root directory!) and insert into the unit prior to applying power.
